Safe Zone Advance Workshop to cover language, microaggressions and bias
Kansas State University Safe Zone program, in the Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs, invites anyone who has completed a Safe Zone Introductory Workshop in the past three years to take part in the Safe Zone Advanced Workshop covering language, microaggressions and bias. The workshop will be 2:30-4 p.m. Thursday, April 23, via Zoom.
Please RSVP to reserve your place now. A Zoom link will be emailed out to those registered the night before the session.
For this workshop, Safe Zone will use its team members from Intercultural Learning and Development to offer an advance training for faculty, staff, students and community members who wish to learn more about the power of language we use, subtle behavioral aggression, and implicit biases often experienced by historically excluded and underrepresented identities.
Disclaimer: We do not intend for the session to go the full hour and a half. This is just to ensure that we have enough time to cover everything and answer questions. Please feel free to stay as long as possible during the session.
Safe Zone continues to be part of Kansas State University's efforts to create an open and affirming campus since the 1970s. Safe Zone contributes to help anyone facing sexual orientation discrimination. Revitalization of the initiative in 2002 created a more comprehensive and ever-evolving Safe Zone effort to fit the needs of current K-State community members. Allies become educated to help those coming from a variety of backgrounds and identities with needs concerning exclusionary acts like intimidation, micro- and macroaggressions, discrimination, LGBTQ-related concerns or sexual violence.
