Hand and dyepot: Textile, apparel art exhibit
Submitted by Erin Monfort-Nelson
This week only, original textile and apparel art designed by graduate student artists will be on display in the Grad Space Gallery on the second floor of Willard Hall. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb 1.
All creative pieces on display were colored with natural dyes and earth pigments, a more environmentally sustainable option for coloration of apparel, textiles and other mediums. Exploring cultural, elemental, and environmental themes the exhibit combines apparel design, ceramics and textile surface design.
Participating artists are: Hayat Albloushy, apparel, textiles and interior design; Lauren Karle, ceramics; Ying Ma, electrical and computer engineering; Erin Monfort-Nelson, apparel, textiles and interior design; and Grit Vece, adult education.
Faculty mentor is Sherry Haar, department of apparel, textiles and interior design, College of Human Ecology. All garments and textile art were created for partial fulfillment of AT800: Surface Design.
The event is sponsored by the Apparel and Textile Graduate Student Organization.
