Nominations sought for Outstanding Civic Engagement Award

Submitted by Kirsten Zoller

The School of Leadership Studies is seeking nominations for the second annual Outstanding Civic Engagement Award. Students who are awarded this honor will have exercised leadership through their community engagement and service to others. The student will have demonstrated a commitment to personal development, intellectual growth and positive community impact through their work as a citizen leader.

Students nominated for this award should be committed to service and civic engagement through a diversity of experiences on campus and have demonstrated in the community their commitment to serving community needs. Examples of this work may include volunteer service, involvement in service learning courses or programs, engagement in political activism on campus and in the community, social justice work and advocacy, research or work with faculty members on community based initiatives or social justice issues. The student must be a graduating senior from Kansas State University.

You are invited to nominate student candidates for this award by submitting the student’s name and program of study along with a letter of recommendation. Nomination letters should include a list of the student’s accomplishments as a civically engaged citizen highlighting their work on campus and in the community. Letters are limited to two pages in length and must be submitted electronically by no later than midnight on Friday, March 15, to kzoller@k-state.edu.

Awardees will be selected by a panel of K-State faculty and staff. They will be honored at the annual Celebrating Service and Leadership event hosted by the School of Leadership Studies on Sunday, April 21.

Last year’s winners can be viewed online at http://www.k-state.edu/leadership/about/awards/outstandingcivicaward.html.
