Submitted by Mary Rankin

The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is now accepting applications for two new awards honoring demonstrated commitment to excellence in diversity and inclusion. Both are endowed by Sue Barsamian, a 1981 K-State graduate in electrical engineering and former senior vice president for Hewlett Packard.

"It is with great pleasure we announce these awards," said Amy Betz, assistant dean for retention, diversity and inclusion, and associate professor in the College of Engineering. "Sue Barsamian is deeply committed to making engineering a more diverse and equitable profession. In addition to her impressive career at Hewlett Packard, she served five years as a board member for the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering."

The first award, the Sue Barsamian Engineering Faculty and Staff Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion, is open to any full-time faculty or staff member in the College of Engineering. View additional information, including criteria and the application form

The second award, the Sue Barsamian Engineering Student Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion, is open to any full-time College of Engineering undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing. View additional information, including criteria and the application form.

Deadline for nominations to be submitted is 5 p.m. Monday, May 10. Each winning recipient will receive a plaque and cash award of $4,000. Winners will be announced on Nov. 9 at the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit.
