Longtime administrator Emily Lehning is leaving K-State in early September to work for a consulting firm. A farewell reception will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in the Banquet Room at the K-State Alumni Center. All are welcome to attend.
Lehning, who currently serves as special assistant to the provost, has been involved with student recruitment and success at Kansas State University for more than 20 years. She has helped to establish many of the key recruitment, enrollment and student success programs K-State offers. These programs include the university's Strategic Enrollment Management initiative; K-State First, the first-year student experience program; and Wildcat Warm-up, the extended orientation program. Lehning also was the project lead for the renovation of East Stadium into the Berney Family Welcome Center.
"Kansas State University thanks Emily Lehning for her dedicated service, including her leadership in the planning and development of our Strategic Enrollment Management initiative and co-leading its successful implementation and transition," said Charles Taber, provost and executive vice president. "Please join me in wishing her the best in her new position."
After earning her bachelor's degree in agricultural education in 1998 and a master's in college student personnel in 2000 from K-State, Lehning served as an instructor of agricultural education and as a program assistant for the Master of Agribusiness program before being named assistant director of New Student Services in 2001. She was promoted to assistant dean for student life and coordinator of New Student Services in 2005 and then to assistant vice president for student life and director of New Student Services from 2008-2015. In 2008, Lehning earned her doctorate from K-State in counseling and student development. From August 2015 to June 2019, Lehning was associate vice president for student life and director of New Student Services. She then served as interim vice provost for enrollment management from June to November 2019 before being appointed special assistant to the provost.
