Brockway to present 'Creative & Innovative Thinking' TLC Professional Development event today
Submitted by Teaching and Learning Center
As part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development series, Kathy J. Brockway, professor in the School of Integrated Studies at the K-State Salina Aerospace and Technology Campus, will present "Creative & Innovative Thinking" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, via Zoom.
Creative and innovative thinking is an in-demand, discipline-universal skill; and it's a skill that is learned, not born. The overarching objective of this session is to explore how we, as teachers, can inspire our students to consistently train this ability to create and innovate — and to understand how this process doesn't cease at graduation. Building capacity to create and innovate is a lifelong pursuit.
In this active session, participants will explore sample classroom activities that demonstrate how questioning assumptions, embracing empathy, using self-imposed constraints, encouraging divergent thinking and breaking out of established patterns can enhance creativity and lead to breakthrough innovation — regardless of discipline.
Participants will leave the session equipped with practical classroom tools and techniques that can be used to elevate the visibility and importance of creative and innovative skills.
