Proposals requested for online course development grants
Kansas State University Global Campus is requesting grant proposals for the development of new online courses for fiscal year 2022. This is the 13th cycle of the grant-funding program.
"The grant-funding program is intended to direct financial support toward the development of new online courses that closely align with priorities and strategic goals of the university," said Karen Pedersen, dean of Global Campus.
Priority will be given to proposals that:
- Develop new online courses focused on distance learners.
- Reduce course gaps in online curricula or time to degree.
- Focus on learner-centered scheduling — accelerated courses and multiple start dates during a year.
- Fulfill requirements in more than one degree program.
- Expand learning opportunities in areas of university strength.
"We recognize that many courses shifted to remote instruction in the last 18 months, and those recently shifted courses could be considered for this funding," Pedersen said.
Funding will be at the individual course level. For courses that are part of a program, an application should be submitted separately for each course seeking funding.
The award amount will be $3,000 per credit hour, with funding released at the time of award notification. For the first time, an Online Course Design Award is being launched this year.
Through an additional review process, this $5,000 award will be given to the course(s) that provides high levels of impact on learning, innovation, engagement, accessibility, assessment, inclusivity, utility and alignment with course objectives. Faculty must indicate that they would like to be considered for this award when submitting their proposal.
"We are excited to announce a new award for course design that promotes innovation and excellence as well as best practices and quality standards in teaching and learning," Pedersen said.
The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 15. Funding announcements will be made in January 2022.
Faculty should work with their Global Campus program coordinator to complete the proposal application. Coordinator contact information and additional details are available on the Global Campus grant funding website.
