Student Senate weekly update
Hello, Wildcats!
On Thursday, Sept. 9, Student Senate had its second meeting of the 2021-2022 school year. At the meeting, Student Senate voted to approve Reed Krewson as elections commissioner for the 2021-2022 term. The elections commissioner is in charge of carrying out SGA elections and chairs the elections committee. If you are interested in SGA elections, Krewson can be contacted at rgkrewson@k-state.edu.
Additionally, Student Senate introduced legislation to better specify authors of legislation so that primary authors can be more easily identified. Student Senate also introduced legislation to transfer unused funds back to SGA's reserve account.
Finally, Student Senate passed on a resolution that asked Kansas State University to revisit its current independent student organization policy in regard to Title IX violations. The resolution asks that a potential revised policy include an administrative framework for investigating conduct that occurs in independent student organizations, especially violations of Title IX and cases of harassment or discrimination, and asks for an exemption to the self-governance model that would allow K-State to hear and prosecute Title IX cases against violators in independent student organizations. If you are interested in learning more about this resolution, please reach out to Speaker Pro Tempore Nick Saia at ncsaia@k-state.edu.
Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
