Application open for Virtual Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol — March 2022

Are you conducting research or creative inquiry with a faculty member on campus? Would you like the opportunity to present that research to Kansas legislators?

If so, the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry, or OURCI, is seeking submissions from undergraduate researchers for the honor of presenting their research or creative inquiry during the Virtual Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol in March 2022.

Why participate?:

  • Opportunity to take your research experience to the next level.
  • Be part of a statewide event where students from the other Kansas public four-year institutions will be presenting research.
  • Receive professional development in creating a research poster.
  • Improve your communication skills by presenting your research in video format.
  • Chance to have your research viewed by state legislators.

Requirements for applicants:

  • Be undergraduates during the 2021-2022 academic year. 
  • Have completed research under the guidance of a K-State faculty mentor.
  • Follow the methodology of the appropriate academic discipline. 
  • Have research of sufficient quality to be presented at a professional academic meeting.
  • Have the skills, resources and capacity to produce a professional academic poster. 
  • Agree to undergo training and rehearse their presentations prior to the event.

Applications must include:

  • The title of the project.
  • A 250-word abstract.
  • An updated resume.

Please submit your application by Nov. 12.

As a reminder, OURCI has many ways to engage throughout the remainder of the semester.

Research awards — are designated to help students support the purchase of supplies for a project or as compensation for time spent working on a project. Funds will go directly to the student. Faculty oversight of research is required. Applications include completion of a student portion and a letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor. There is a maximum award amount of $500. The application deadline is Oct. 22. View more information

Conference/Travel awards — are meant to pay for travel-related undergraduate research expenses. This can include travel to conduct research or travel to a conference to present research. Funds will go directly to the student. Faculty oversight of research is required. Applications include completion of a student portion and a letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor. There is a maximum award amount of $500 — in-person conference, or $250 — virtual conference. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. View more information

The fall 2021 K-State Undergrad Research Showcase is an event designed to highlight and celebrate undergraduate research happening in and out of classes in departments across campus. The event will be held in a hybrid fashion. Participants will have the option to present in-person, virtually or both.
