Student Senate weekly update
Good morning, Wildcats!
Student Senate met on Thursday, Oct. 28. At the meeting, senators considered multiple pieces of legislation.
First, Student Senate voted to approve Evan Porter as Operations Committee chair for the remainder of the 2021-2022 term. The operations chair is in charge of maintaining Student Governing Association's governing documents, evaluating elections regulations and filling vacancies in Student Senate. The senate voted to approve on-campus event funding to the Asian American Student Union and travel funding to the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Finally, a letter was approved welcoming Afghan refugees to the Manhattan community.
After voting concluded, legislation was introduced to fix an inaccuracy in the SGA statutes, significantly change the timing of the SGA elections and transition season, and fund proposals for the Educational Opportunity Fund. A travel allocation to the Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management Club was also introduced.
Finally, a bill was introduced to make budget adjustments to the Student Services Fee for fiscal year 2022. These adjustments come as a result of declining enrollment for the 2021-2022 academic year, which led to insufficient collections of the Student Services Fee. These budget adjustments propose recalling $1.1 million from Student Services Fee entities and recalling more than $400,000 from reserve accounts. If you have any questions about these budget adjustments, please contact Max Harman, Student Services Fee chair, at mjharman@k-state.edu.
Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
