Guatemala education abroad opportunity
The food, nutrition, dietetics and health department offers an education abroad program in Guatemala. The focus is on service-learning to help the indigenous Maya people improve their quality of life.
The program has a variable length of stay — six or more weeks — and there is an on-site K-State program manager to assist students while living, learning and serving in Guatemala.
Examples of service learning opportunities: work in medical clinics, teach nutrition lessons to all ages, assist with community garden programs, assist with clean water programs, present cooking classes, conduct community health assessments, develop physical activity programs, assist with disease prevention programs, tutor in English/computers/business skills, assist with housing improvements, provide guidance on agricultural programs, teach financial skills, teach entrepreneurial skills, as well as research opportunities.
Why consider this program? Working and studying abroad makes you an active and engaged part of a global community. The experience can enhance job prospects and make you more competitive in an international economy, give you a broader outlook and inspire personal and professional growth. You will have the opportunity to acquire and cultivate skills and make a positive difference in the lives of the indigenous Maya.
