College of Agriculture Alumni Fellow to present lecture April 13
Hayden Wands, vice president of global procurement, commodities for Grupo Bimbo, will present a special Grain Science Seminar and College of Agriculture Alumni Fellow lecture from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in 311 Shellenberger Hall.
Wands will present "Navigating the Opportunities within the Grain Science Industry."
Wands, Colleyville, Texas, graduated from K-State in 1982 with two bachelor's degrees, one in flour milling science management and the other in business marketing. During his 30-plus years of experience in the industry, Wands has held various positions in different organizations. After moving to Bimbo Bakeries USA, he was vice president of procurement, managing more than $1 billion in spending. Five years ago, Wands moved to the Grupo Bimbo Global procurement team. Wands currently serves as the chairman of the commodity and agricultural policy committee of the American Bakers Association. He also serves on the Agricultural Advisory Committee for the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. His past involvement has included serving as the chairman the Wheat Foods Council and chairman of the Wheat Quality Council. Wands and his wife, Martina, '82, have two children, Brittany, '11, and Carter, '14.
