Opportunities for faculty, staff and students to strengthen scholarly engagement practices
Professional organizations develop and deepen our scholarly engagement practices and provide additional resources to excel in higher education. As an institution, K-State is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium and Imagining America, both of which provide unique resources for faculty, staff and students.
Below are four opportunities that the Office of Engagement is sharing with K-State faculty, staff and students through its institutional memberships:
- The Engagement Scholarship Consortium is providing financial support that helps facilitate positive outcomes for both scholars and communities through the Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grants Program. Faculty and staff from Engagement Scholarship Consortium member institutions, including K-State, may apply for up to $5,000 to fund a one-year project. Collaborative projects among faculty and/or staff from more than one discipline or at more than one university are encouraged. Applications are due Friday, May 5.
- Call for proposals for 2023 Imagining America National Gathering. The annual gathering brings together public scholars, artists, designers, students and cultural organizers who are addressing the most pressing issues of our time. The gathering offers participants a three-day immersive experience to connect, dialogue, learn and strategize around the ways to build new knowledge and inspire collective imagination toward transformative education and action. The gathering will be in person Oct. 20-22 in Providence, Rhode Island. Proposals are due May 31.
- Apply for the 2023-2024 undergrad JGS Fellows Program through Imagining America. The program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students who work with photography or digital media to participate in a yearlong learning exchange that includes tuition support, community project support and opportunities for professional development. The program particularly welcomes applications from first-generation college students. Applications are due Monday, June 5.
JGS Fellows will receive:
- $2,000 in tuition scholarships.
- Complimentary registration, lodging and a travel award to attend the 2023 Imagining America National Gathering.
- Mentorship and financial support for a community project.
- Access to regular, virtual learning exchanges throughout the year, as well as connections to the Imagining America network of scholars, artists and community organizers.
- Apply for the 2023-2024 graduate PAGE Fellows Program through Imagining America. The program invites graduate students to participate in a yearlong working group in support of collaborative art-making, teaching, writing, storytelling and co-creating knowledge with and in community. PAGE Fellows are artists, scientists, researchers, instigators, cultural leaders, care workers and community activists. Applications are due Friday, June 30.
PAGE Fellows will receive:
- Complimentary registration, lodging and a $500 fellowship award to support travel to the 2023 Imagining America National Gathering.
- Opportunity to apply for additional professional development funds.
- Access to yearlong mentorship and community-building events within PAGE and the Imagining America network. This can include, but is not limited to, research projects, publication opportunities and skill-building workshops.
