K-State professor invited to participate in group exhibition at New York University
Rebecca Hackemann-Bahlmann, Kansas State University professor of art and photography, has been invited to participate in a group exhibition and give an artist talk with curator Katharina Bosse at New York University’s Deutsches Haus, New York’s leading institution for the culture and language of the German-speaking world.
The event is from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 7. The exhibition surveys collective public projects by many artists and scientists that began in 2015 and resulted in two editions of a large art book. Artists were asked to contest and question The Thingsätte, propaganda theaters in National Socialist Germany that now lie in ruins. They questioned what should be done with these outdoor theaters as they are unfamiliar to new generations. Many lie overgrown in forests. In this exhibition, Hackemann-Bahlmann is showing a video about her interactive and socially engaged community project that took place in three cities in Germany in 2015.
