Learn about Kansas River flood history from the US Army Corps of Engineers
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District is presenting on Kansas River flood history from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Hale Library Room 181. The presentation will also be shared via Zoom.
The presentation will include details about the Great Flood of 1951, which severely impacted the Manhattan area. Several federal flood protection projects, including the Manhattan levee, were constructed as a result of the flooding.
The presenter, Kara Cline, is a hydraulic engineer at the Kansas City District. A 2018 graduate of Kansas State University, Cline has worked on several flood risk management studies and recently completed a flow frequency study on the Kansas River as part of the Kansas River Reservoirs Flood and Sediment Study.
This event is in conjunction with the "Disasters: Stories We Share" display currently in Hale Library's first-floor entryway. The event is free to attend, and all are welcome.
