Judges needed for Kansas HOSA leadership conference
Submitted by Amanda Reichenberger
The Kansas HOSA Spring Leadership Conference will take place March 27-28 at the K-State Manhattan campus. An estimated 800 high school students will participate in competitions and leadership opportunities throughout the day Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28. Help support Kansas' future health professionals by judging events as your time allows.
HOSA' s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA has partnered with several organizations across the K-State campus to engage students.
Judging will take place at in the K-State Student Union and in the K-State Alumni Center on March 27 from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. The amount of time actually judging will depend on availability of the judge, number of competitors, etc. There is also an option to help judge digitally submitted materials — these can be judged between March 18-27 or on-site on March 27.
Judges from the K-State community are needed to help provide feedback and scoring of events. Find more information below on the expectations as a judge and contact Tina Goosz-Garetson, Kansas HOSA state advisor at tgoosz@kumc.edu. Otherwise, please complete the judging interest form.
HOSA members can participate in a range of events, including individual and team testing, live scenarios and presentations. Judges will use a prepared evaluation sheet to rate knowledge and performance.
Key points:
- Students will be expected to dress according to guidelines, which vary by event. Judges are encouraged to wear event appropriate or business casual attire.
- Judges are expected to adhere to time limits, as students have multiple events and strict schedules in many cases.
- Judges will be expected to provide written feedback for all participants based on guidelines.
- Judges are expected to remain consistent and fair in evaluation and provide equal opportunities to all competitors. All participants must be treated equally and respectfully regardless of race, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, etc.
Judges will be matched first by previous work experience. View more information on the website.
