Flinchbaugh Food and Agriculture Policy Fellowship is accepting applications
Join us for snacks and and an opportunity to learn about the Flinchbaugh Food and Agriculture Policy Fellowship during an informational session at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in the Muir Room, Room 224, at the K-State Student Union.
As the premier leadership opportunity for young leaders in Kansas agriculture, the Flinchbaugh Food and Agriculture Policy Fellowship is a program designed to give students an opportunity to learn and work in agricultural policy.
During their fellowship, students will complete two paid agriculture policy internships — a state experience in the spring and a federal experience in the summer. Fellows will work for a legislative or congressional office, a state or federal agency, or a food and agriculture membership organization. Throughout both experiences, fellows learn about the policy process by attending meetings, hearings, observing the legislative process, researching issues, writing testimony and briefs, tracking legislation and more. Additionally, it offers networking, policy, mentorship, learning and resume-building opportunities.
The program's purpose is to develop students studying an agricultural field to be prepared for careers in the food and agriculture industry; to provide valuable support to policymakers; and to establish a long-term, sustaining Ag Fellows program that develops premier leaders in Kansas agriculture and the industries that support it.
Applications can be found on agpolicyfellows.com. Completed applications include an application form, resume, cover letter, an issue essay, college transcript and two letters of recommendation. After submitting the applications, selected students will be moved to an interview process with the Flinchbaugh Food and Agriculture Fellowship steering committee. Applications are due at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.
