Marking Straight-Up

The basic form of marking is called “straight-up.” You are attempting to stop any direct forward progress of the disc. The thrower might get off a dump pass or a swing pass, but that’s fine; your job is to keep them from getting the disc past you down the field. You can get aggressive and attempt to stop all passes the thrower tries, but beware of fakes or you can find yourself completely out of position, unable to affect the throw at all.
