The wheat blast team is an international collaboration among institutions in the USA, Brazil, and Bolivia. Researchers from Kansas State University and the USDA ARS Foreign Disease and Weed Science Unit will collaborate on the genomics, disease phenotyping for host resistance, and outreach objectives of the grant. Cooperators from EMBRAPA in Brazil and from Norfield SRL in Bolivia will collaborate on disease phenotyping for host resistance, and outreach objectives of the grant. Technologies and diagnosis protocols to facilitate early detection and rapid response will be developed and deployed.
This international project is funded by the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture Plant Biosecurity Program. Dr. Barbara Valent, an international authority on the wheat blast pathogen, is the Project Director and is providing the leadership for this international collaboration.
