Self-respect as a belief about “truth”
Consider now the third component in our definition:

“ ...believe to be true about ourselves.”

Self-respect deals with issues of “truth.” We evaluate what we believe to be true about ourselves. Note that I use the word “believe” in this definition.

What is the difference between “evaluating what is true” and “evaluating what we believe to be true”?

The difference between these two statements is critical for our approach to self-respect.
