Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves a blend of five qualities:
1) Parents are capable of being fully "present" when with their children;
2) Parents can employ an "informed intuition" in their decision making;
3) Parents are capable of monitoring their thoughts and feelings and coming to terms with their own needs as individual persons;
4) Parents are capable of being imaginative and flexible in their thinking;
5) Parents can focus on their own personal mastery and making choices consistent with their goals instead of focusing on technique to control outcomes for their children. For example, they rely more on modeling effective behavior than using punishment.
