Peer Tutors (currently hiring)

Educational Supportive Services hires peer tutors to provides individualized tutorial assistance to students that can help them develop the academic and study skills necessary for success in the college classroom. We offer tutorial services for courses at all undergraduate levels.

Job Description/Qualifications/Pay rate

Academic peer tutors work with students on a one-one basis on campus or over Zoom. Most peer tutors work between their classes and average about 10 hrs/wk. They can work as little as 4 hrs/wk or up to 20 hrs/wk. The main expectation is to support or supplement regular classroom instruction and will go through required tutor certification training. Peer tutors report to the ESS Academic Services Coordinator - Scott Velasquez.

  • Qualifications
    • Must be a K-State student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
    • Must have received a "B" or better is the courses at K-State they tutor
  • Current Hourly Rate:
    • Starting pay for undergraduate student tutors: $10/hr
    • Starting pay for graduate student tutors: $11/hr

Student Office Workers (not currently hiring)

Job Description/Qualifications/Pay rate

Educational Supportive Services is looking for committed students who are interested in helping support and promote the ESS program.

ESS student workers provide assistance to ESS Office and staff in Holton and Holtz Hall which includes, but is not limited to serving at the front desk and asssisting students, assistance in processing applications and managing electronic records, updating database, performing office clerk duties, running errands, helping with events and programs as nesessary. Some positions may create social media content for TRIO ESS accounts to promote the program.

After gaining some experience and knowledge about TRIO ESS, student workers may be asked to represent TRIO ESS in a professional manner at events, workshops, and conferences and will be a helpful and professional advocate for the program. They will provide a student perspective on the services and activities of the program as well gain knowledge about other on- campus resources for students and staff alike.

Qualifications

  • Have completed 1 year of college
  • Be currently enrolled at Kansas State University
  • Maintained a 2.5 GPA
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work comfortably with students and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be highly self-motivated, able to work independently, and have an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledgeable about the need for confidentiality regarding student records
  • Familiarity with Excel, Word
  • May require experience with Social Media content creation.
  • Priority will be given to TRIO ESS participants.

Starting pay: $10.00/hr

Availability

  • Up to 20 hrs per week - Schedule will be based on availability between the hours of 8AM – 5PM, M-F
  • Current needs:
    • Holtz Hall - hours available between 8AM – 5PM, M-F
    • Holton Hall - hours available between 8AM – 5PM, M-F
