Submitted by Doris Merrill

The Biosecurity Research Institute was well represented at the 2018 American Biological Safety Association International Conference in October in Charleston, South Carolina.

John R. Henneman, director of biocontainment operations, co-taught an eight-hour class on "Advanced Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Facility Operations." Henneman is representing ABSA as a task leader in reviewing the ANSI Z9.14 standard, "Testing and Performance Verification Methodologies for Ventilation Systems for Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) and Animal Biological Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) Laboratories."

Greg Marlar, building automation specialist, and Rachael Sullivan, biosafety specialist, presented a poster on "Sterilization of POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE (PTFE) filters on plumbing vents using a portable steam generator."

Margaret Juergensmeyer, biosafety specialist, attended ABSA meetings for committees on which she serves, including the Finance Committee, Publications Committee and Membership Committee, where she is the team lead for membership/leadership. She also attended the ABSA International BSAT Community Advocacy Committee Workshop.

This annual conference is attended by more than 700 professionals in the field of biosafety.
