Managing Difficult Conversations session offered Feb. 7

Submitted by Human Capital Services - Learning and Development

Managing Difficult Conversations, WTD151, will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 7, in 1092 College of Business Building.

Many of us view confrontation and conflict as negative and something to be avoided; however, with skills and practice, we can feel confident engaging in difficult conversations. This interactive presentation is designed to increase your confidence and skills in effective communication about difficult workplace situations. This two-hour session will include information, discussions, role plays and other interactive activities.

By the end of the training, supervisors and managers will be better able to:

  • Identify their own fears/discomfort with confrontation or conflict.
  • Identify derailing conversations and how to keep the conversation on track.
  • Identify three difficult conversations, including "What Happened" conversation, "Feelings" conversations and "Identity" conversations.
  • Role-play how to effectively apply the communication skills covered and how to process reactions/issues that arise.

To register for this session, you can either sign up through HRIS Self-Service or send an email to Megan Hoelting at learning-develop-hr@k-state.edu. When sending an email, please include your name, employee ID, course title and course number, WTD151.
