Derek Mosier recognized as Professor of the Week

Submitted by Faculty Senate

Derek Mosier, Upham endowed professor and department head of the diagnostic medicine and pathobiology department in the College of Veterinary Medicine, was named Professor of the Week.

Mosier's career at K-State spans over 25 years and includes research that is mainly focused on infectious diseases of cattle and teaching veterinary pathology.

His teaching efforts have been acknowledged by several local and national awards, including a three-time recipient of the Norden (Zoetis) Distinguished Teaching Award, the Student American Veterinary Medical Association Award for Teaching Excellence in the Basic Sciences, the Bayer Animal Health Teaching Excellence Award, and the KSU Foundation Iman Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is a past president of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, and has been active in promoting international efforts for training and cooperation in veterinary pathology.

Mosier has published as author or co-author more than 100 manuscripts, 130 scientific abstracts and 12 book chapters, and has been involved in training more than 75 graduate students and pathology residents.

The Professor of the Week recognition is coordinated by Faculty Senate, the president's office, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing. Recipients are faculty members selected by Faculty Senate caucuses. Those selected are provided tickets to a men's home basketball game of their choosing and are recognized during halftime. This is just a small token of appreciation for those who teach at K-State.

Mosier was recognized at the Jan. 22 home game.
