Final band concerts next week

The K-State Band Program will perform its final concerts for the semester Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2, at McCain Auditorium. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public.

The K-State Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, May 1. The Wind Symphony will perform works by Markowski, Rose, Sanström, Lauridsen and Chance. Guest conductors will be Onsby Rose, doctoral student at Ohio State University and future director of instrumental music at Dordt College, and Jay Koupal, K-State doctoral student. The ensemble also will be joined by Paul Hunt, professor of trombone, as a featured soloist. The ensemble under the direction of Alex Wimmer, assistant director of bands.

The Wind Ensemble will perform works by Bogenshutz, Daughtrey, O’Tool and Rose. Guest conductors will include Shawn Knopp, K-State doctoral student and director of bands at Tabor College; Spc. Michael Turner, conductor of the 1st Infantry Division Band; Onsby Rose; Allegra Fisher, K-State doctoral student; and Koupal. Jacob Wrobel, K-State undergraduate and future UMKC graduate student, will be a featured percussion soloist. The ensemble is under the direction of Frank Tracz, director of bands.

The K-State Concert Band and University Band will perform on Thursday, May 2. The Concert Band will perform works by Smith, Fillmore, Hazo and Mackey. The ensemble will be conducted by Fisher and Koupal, as well as Tracz.

The University Band is primarily made up of music education majors performing on secondary instruments and are conducted by junior and senior education majors. This experience provides them with opportunities that will better prepare them for student teaching.
