Visiting Fulbright scholar Beth Eggleston to present Sept. 26

Submitted by Chuck Martin

Eggleston

Beth Eggleston, visiting Fulbright scholar, will present "What Keeps Aid Workers Awake at Night: The Future of Humanitarian Action" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union.

The international humanitarian system is under pressure, underresourced and undergoing massive reforms. Eggleston will discuss some of the latest research and trends related to the delivery of humanitarian assistance and examine future challenges, including diversity and inclusion in leadership, flashpoints in the Asia Pacific region and the role of China as an aid donor.

Eggleston is a Fulbright scholar and visiting faculty at the Humanitarian Response Program of the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island. She is co-founder and director of the Humanitarian Advisory Group based in Melbourne, where she is currently involved in research on enhancing civil-military coordination and protecting civilians in armed conflict.

Eggleston has served in key humanitarian coordination roles in a range in peace operations and humanitarian response contexts over the last 20 years. Before her current role, she worked at Oxfam with a focus on humanitarian policy and deployments to Sri Lanka and the Solomon Islands. While working with the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan, Eggleston developed civil-military guidance, policy on interaction with Provincial Reconstruction Teams and was the liaison with NATO/ISAF for humanitarian response.
