Each year, the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, or CUPA-HR, presents an HR Excellence Award in each of its four regions. Kellie Wilson, talent acquisition senior strategic partner in Human Capital Services, received the 2020 HR Excellence Award.

The award honors transformative human resources work in higher education and recognizes individuals or teams who have provided HR leadership resulting in significant and ongoing organizational change within their institutions.

Wilson has partnered with others and led significant and ongoing organizational change by streamlining HR processes, collaboratively leading a team to implement a revised process for nonuniversity student hiring processes, and streamlining the background check process for graduate students. In revising the nonuniversity student hiring process, Wilson collaborated with others to allow nonuniversity student applicants to easily apply through a template-based hiring process. She partnered with internal and external stakeholders to implement the streamlined process and collaborated with others to craft communications to departments. She also conducted training sessions for departments in a variety of delivery methods to meet the needs of stakeholders. Wilson’s leadership to transform the hiring process for nonuniversity students has saved days in the hiring process.

As a recipient of the HR Excellence Award, a $1,000 contribution was provided to Wilson for the institutional endowment or scholarship fund of her choice. Wilson selected the K-State Strong Emergency Response Fund because she feels this campaign is crucial for supporting K-State employees who have been impacted financially by COVID-19.
