Nominate students for Mortar Board Senior Honor Society

Submitted by Allison Burnett

Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society is accepting professor nominations for the 2021-2022 class. Nominees should be students entering senior status who strive for the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.

Kansas State University's XIX chapter of Mortar Board, a registered departmental student organization, is active in serving students, the campus and the Manhattan community. K-State's Mortar Board chapter has been awarded as one of the best in the nation year after year and is continually dedicated to promoting leadership, scholarship and service activities.

Mortar Board offers several scholarships that are available for freshman, sophomore and junior students each year, helps coordinate and speak at the new student convocation in the fall and recognizes outstanding faculty with annual awards.

In the Manhattan area, Mortar Board hosts Reading is Leading, an event designed to create a fun and active learning environment for young learners to become more involved in reading and writing. Mortar Board sponsors and partners with other student organizations to serve with many other service events that directly benefit the Manhattan community. In addition to service activities, Mortar Board members benefit from professional development opportunities hosted throughout the academic year.

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Completion of at least 75 credit hours as of Jan. 1, 2021.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Faculty and staff can nominate students at forms.gle/cHrpnFMTDw712f3dA. Faculty and staff nomination forms are due at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.
