Advisor Forum presents October Charlie Award

Submitted by Beth Stuewe

The K-State Advisor Forum announces that Ashley Blake, academic advisor in K-State Global Campus, has been selected for the October Charlie Award.

Blake was nominated for the award by her colleague, Rebecca Dale, because of the exemplary work she has done both in advising and in her communication with other K-State Online advisors.

Dale writes, "Ashley has done an amazing job with streamlining efforts for K-State Online students and advisors. Many advisors who work with K-State Online students are located within their respective colleges, not Global Campus, making communication a little difficult at times when changes arise. She has enhanced our communication within the online advisor group by using Microsoft Teams more and normalizing its use. Ashley has also made the re-enrollment tracking and data mining process easier for online advisors with the use of Power BI."

Blake spent time this summer building an advisor communication timeline for all K-State online advisors to use. Not only does it highlight when important emails could be sent, but it also gives advisors detailed instructions on how to use SSC to run the report of students to send the message to, and gives an example message they can send.

Blake also does a fantastic job with her advisees.

"Ashley is very personable with her students," Dale said. "She is a great listener, empathizer, and makes a note to follow up with students when big life events happen, like weddings, birth of a child, or surgery. She builds rapport easily with her students, which is so important for student retention and success."

The K-State Advisor Forum team thanks Blake for the work she has done for students and advisors and congratulates her on this award.

For more information on the Charlie Award or to learn how to nominate someone, please visit the Recognition page on the Office of Student Success website. One award will be given out at the beginning of each month. The Advisor Forum Committee will make the decision and deliver awards.
