Learn more about K-State's Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative

Submitted by Cailin Riley

The Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship at K-State Libraries will host several online information sessions about the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative. Attendees will learn more about the program and resources available to support the adoption or creation of open educational resources.

The Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative provides grants between $2,000-$5,000 for instructors to adopt or create open educational resources for their classrooms. The initiative aims to make education more affordable for K-State students. Since being launched in 2013, it has saved students $6.8 million.

Here is the schedule of general information sessions on the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative:

  • Nov. 5 from 3-4 p.m.
  • Nov. 9 from 1-2 p.m.
  • Nov. 15 from 10-11 a.m.
  • Dec. 1 from 1-2 p.m.

The center also will host a Pressbooks workshop from 3-4 p.m. Nov. 12 and a LibreText workshop from 1-2 p.m. Nov. 19.

Pressbooks and LibreText are open access creation platforms that instructors can use to publish textbooks.

Participants must register to attend any of the sessions. More information, including registration links, can be found on the Libraries' event calendar.
