Wenjun Ma to present Division of Biology Seminar

Submitted by Division of Biology

Wenjun Ma, associate professor in the departments of veterinary pathobiology and of molecular microbiology and immunology at the University of Missouri, will present his research "Understanding of Novel Bat Influenza Viruses and Beyond" as part of the Division of Biology Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, in 221 Ackert Hall. The seminar is also available via Zoom.

Bats are natural reservoirs for many zoonotic viruses. Two novel influenza A viruses, H17N10 and H18N11, have been found in New World bats. Although neither of these viruses has been isolated, infectious clone technology has permitted significant progress to understand their biology, which includes unique features compared to all known influenza A viruses. In his lecture, Ma will combine his group research to discuss the current status and perspective on novel bat influenza viruses and their potential as the vectored vaccine platform to develop safe and effective live vaccines.
