Kansas Legislative week five update

Submitted by Susan S. Peterson

Last week in the Kansas Legislature, Ernie Minton, dean of the College of Agriculture and director of K-State Research and Extension, presented the annual State of K-State Agriculture, Research and Extension on Jan. 31. The first presentation was before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Minton also presented to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

On Feb. 2, the Kansas House of Representatives Water Committee received an informational briefing from Brian Olson, head of the K-State Western Kansas Research Center, and Matt Sanderson, sociology, anthropology and social work department.

This week, Sarah Sexton Bowser, Center for Sorghum Improvement, will provide an informational briefing to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Also, the Legislature's internal deadlines for introducing legislation are this week. Wednesday, Feb. 8, is the last day an individual legislator can introduce a bill. Friday, Feb. 10, is the last day non-exempt committees can introduce a bill.
