Cancer Data Blitz: Talks with a Twist

Submitted by Sherry Fleming

Data Blitz in Union 11:30-1:30 Friday Sept. 22

On Friday, Sept. 22, the Johnson Cancer Research Center will host its annual Cancer Data Blitz and poster session in the K-State Student Union Courtyard. From 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., faculty members will present their research and cancer information. There is a twist! Faculty members will only get two minutes and two slides to present information on their research. It’s a great way to try to make the faculty figure out how to concisely present their information.

The Cancer Data Blitz will be hosted by none other than legendary local Emcee Dave Lewis. Lewis is one of the most dynamic and entertaining disc jockeys in the Midwest. He has performed at more than 2,000 shows in his career, which started in 1979. Lewis is an honorary Wildcat — he has served in the past as the public address announcer for the K-State football and basketball games. He is sure to bring his own special brand of entertainment to the Cancer Data Blitz.

In addition to the Cancer Data Blitz, the Graduate Student Cancer Research awardees will also present posters of their summer research awards.

The K-State Cancer Research Week is Sept. 18-22. It is a week full of cancer research-related events to inform the public about the basic cancer research performed at K-State and fundraising events. The events will be held in the Manhattan area on campus and at nearby local businesses.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center’s multidisciplinary faculty researchers and students are working hard to unravel the complexities of cancer. With the support of a devoted advisory council and many generous donors, the center is taking a leading role in conquering cancers in our time.
