College of Business Distinguished Lecture Series returns with State Treasurer Lynn Rogers
MANHATTAN — Current Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers will be the speaker for the Kansas State University College of Business Distinguished Lecture Series, which resumes after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Rogers' presentation will take place from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Western Ag Resources Lecture Hall, 1008 College of Business Building.
Sworn in as the 41st state treasurer on Jan. 4, 2021, Rogers is a businessman, former state senator and former Wichita school board president. Rogers has more than 40 years of experience in banking, serving in several capacities for various financial institutions. In 2016, he retired after spending over 30 years traveling Kansas as an agriculture banker assisting farmers and ranchers with financial planning and investment. Rogers worked to provide more than $750 million in leasing and financing services to farmers, ranchers and grain cooperatives. His experience has helped Rogers understand the challenges Kansans face, especially those in rural communities and in the agricultural sector.
In 2001, Rogers was elected to the Wichita USD 259 Board of Education. He worked on behalf of the children and parents in Wichita, serving as president or vice president for seven of those years. Rogers also volunteered with his local Parent Teacher Organization and church.
Elected to the Kansas Senate in 2016, Rogers represented the 25th Senate District, which includes parts of Wichita, from 2017 to 2019. During his time in the Senate, he was the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance and a member of the Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs and the Senate Committee on Agriculture. He also served on the Legislative Post Audit Committee.
He went on to serve as lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2021 until his appointment as state treasurer. As lieutenant governor, Rogers was the head of the Office of Rural Prosperity. He focused on increasing opportunities in rural communities. He made significant progress in expanding broadband and housing opportunities in rural Kansas.
