College of Education announces outstanding student awards

MANHATTAN — Eleven undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education are being recognized with awards for excellence, social justice advocacy, potential and promise.
The students will be recognized at the college's commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Bramlage Coliseum.
Two students will receive the Outstanding Future Teacher Award, which recognizes future teachers who demonstrate excellence during their professional clinical experiences, and five students will receive the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award, which recognizes students whose scholarship and leadership left an indelible mark through their college, campus and community activities. One student will be named Outstanding Graduate Student in Education, which recognizes a doctoral student for excellence in scholarship and outstanding service.
One student will receive the Social Justice Advocacy Award, which recognizes leadership that advocates for the fair and equitable treatment of all students and a commitment to the inclusion of persons of marginalized groups. The Kansas State Department of Education will recognize two students as Teachers of Promise.
The following students are receiving awards:
• Carly Brasser, elementary education, Andale, is being recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education as a Teacher of Promise.
• Savana Gorman, secondary education-speech, Chapman, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.
• Ellie Seeler, elementary education, Easton, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.
• Broderic Rathbone, secondary education-chemistry, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Future Teacher recipient. Kaden Kleiner, in secondary education-math, is being recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education as a Teacher of Promise. Both are from Hillsboro.
• Jessica Williams, Ph.D. graduate in Adult Learning and Leadership, Merriam, is being recognized as the Outstanding Graduate Student in Education.
• Alynn Bratkiv, elementary education, Olathe, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.
• Margaret Horton, educational studies, Overland Park, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.
• Macy Yust, elementary education, Spring Hill, isbeing recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.
• Katlynne Davidson, elementary education, Wamego, is being recognized as a College of Education Outstanding Future Teacher recipient.
• Michelle Strowbridge, doctoral candidate in leadership in academic advising, Corvallis, Oregon, is being recognized as the College of Education Social Justice Advocacy Award recipient.
