MANHATTAN — The dance group MALEVO is bringing malambo to the McCain Performance Series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.
Malambo is a traditional Argentine folk dance that features percussion and tap dancing in gauchos. MALEVO, the all-male group created by director, choreographer and dancer Matías Jaime, takes it beyond its limits with a modern, avant-garde approach, merging it with other dance styles, including flamenco and urban percussion.
Recently named an official "Cultural Ambassador to the National Identity of Argentina," MALEVO has performed in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Cairo, Saint Petersburg and Montreal. The group has also made special appearances with Latin pop star Ricky Martin and Cirque du Soleil, and they've been featured in a yearlong residency at Universal Studios Japan and "America's Got Talent," where they made it to the semifinals.
Tickets are available online a mccain.k-state.edu or at the ticket office in the McCain lobby from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays or by phone at 785-532-6428 during the same hours.
