K-State students compete, win prizes at Fall 2024 Edward Jones Sales Competition

Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University students showcased their sales skills in the Fall 2024 Edward Jones Sales Competition hosted by the College of Business Administration's National Strategic Selling Institute.

Students from the College of Business Administration and the College of Health and Human Sciences participated in the role-play sales competition. In the scenario, students acted as Edward Jones financial advisors meeting with fictitious prospects in an initial needs discovery sales call.

This year, a $500 student merit prize was awarded to the winner in each room, with an additional $500 student merit award for the top first-time competitor. The awards were funded by the Doug E. Hill/Edward Jones Scholarship Fund. This fund was set up to provide financial assistance to students properly enrolled in the College of Business Administration at Kansas State University.

The following students finished in the top three in the competition: Halle Hartner, junior in professional strategic selling, Belleville; Taylor Moorman, senior in professional strategic selling, Emporia; and Adam Ramirez, senior in professional strategic selling, Shawnee.

The following students received the top newcomer award: Caydence Pankaskie, junior in business and professional strategic selling, Lebo; Kennedy Kaufman, senior in marketing and professional strategic selling, Prairie Village; and Luke Meis, sophomore in marketing and professional strategic selling, Wahoo, Nebraska.

"We continue to be amazed at the caliber of students in K-State's National Strategic Selling Program," said D.C. Hackerott, a financial advisor at Edward Jones. "They are well-spoken, professional and carry a gravitas hard to find in most people their age. It's a testament to them, their parents and supporters, and to the program. Well done!"

The National Strategic Selling Institute is in the College of Business Administration and has been named one of the top sales programs in the country for twelve straight years by the Sales Education Foundation.

In the fall of 2018, Kansas State became just the 19thuniversity in the U.S. to offer a major in professional strategic selling. Students can also earn a certificate in professional strategic selling, which is open to all majors at the university. The professional strategic selling program introduces students to the fundamentals of sales and the innovative curriculum and sales labs allow students to develop the skills needed to be successful.
