Phillips 66 Business Ethics Case Competition awards $8,400 to K-State students

Friday, Jan. 31, 2025

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University's College of Business Administration recently awarded $8,400 in scholarship money to 20 students who competed in the 2024 Phillips 66 Business Ethics Case Competition.

The competition was organized by the college's Business Ethics Education Initiative and sponsored by Phillips 66.

Students were challenged to examine a real-world ethical dilemma and were responsible for analyzing the situation, applying appropriate ethical and strategic management principles, and developing a viable set of practical recommendations. After faculty members in the management department evaluated the initial written analyses, five teams were selected to compete in the final round, where they presented their analyses and recommendations to a panel of judges.

"This competition offers students a valuable chance to enhance their analytical skills while exploring the intersection of strategy and ethics," said Bill Turnley, Sam and Karen Forrer Chair of Business Ethics and management department head. "The presentations effectively balanced these aspects. We are grateful for Phillips 66's support in making this event possible."
