MANHATTAN — Kansas State University is celebrating the impacts of undergraduate research across the state at the 2025 Kansas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol.

K-State will host the event from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the second-floor rotunda at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka. This year's Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol will showcase five undergraduate researchers from each of the eight public four-year Kansas Board of Regents universities.

"Research is a cornerstone of K-State's land-grant mission, and Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol underscores the importance of preparing the next generation of scholars and innovators," said Hans Coetzee, interim vice president for research. "This event not only highlights the talent and potential of undergraduate researchers but also demonstrates the far-reaching impact of their work on Kansas communities and beyond."

Attendees can expect traditional poster-style research presentations from the students that showcase a variety of research topics that positively impact the state.

K-State students participating in the event include Will Dodderidge, senior in history, and Andrew Navarro, senior in political science and international studies, both from Leawood; Isaac Steiner, junior in chemical engineering, Shawnee;Lauren Apprill, senior in the accelerated bachelor's and master's degree program in biochemistry, West Des Moines, Iowa; and Samuel Speck, junior in fisheries, wildlife, conservation and environmental biology, Smithville, Missouri.

"Undergraduate researchers at Kansas universities develop useful skills for their careers while providing critical support for the outstanding research developments coming from faculty labs," said Beth Powers, director of Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research at K-State. "We are excited to bring together top undergraduate researchers from all KBOR institutions to share their work with each other and our state legislators."

The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be included.
