Aircraft being retrieved and investigated after emergency landing
SALINA -- A Kansas State University Salina student pilot had to do an emergency landing in a wheat field seven miles north of Alta Vista, Kan., during a solo flight. The student was not injured and is being transported back to Salina from the Manhattan, Kan., airport. Handling an emergency landing is part of the students' training at K-State Salina.
A K-State crew is at the emergency landing site. The aircraft does not appear to be seriously damaged, and the crew is determining whether the plane can be flown back to Salina. A more complete report will follow retrieval and investigation of the aircraft.
