The interdisciplinary MICRA team from Kansas State University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Langston University works on supporting rural livelihoods in EPSCoR states in the water-stressed Central High Plains through building research capacity via interdisciplinary research, early-career faculty development, graduate and undergraduate student training, community/stakeholder engagement, and educational outreach.
Microbial Innovations for Climate-Resilient Agriculture (MICRA)
The MICRA project brings together engineers, mathematicians, soil and agricultural scientists, social scientists, and agricultural economists to investigate the impacts of soil wetting bacteria and biochar on water holding capacity, and study the impacts of these soil amendments on evapotranspiration and microbial communities, nutrient availability and plants’ responses to drought stress, and irrigators’ perceptions of soil amendments and barriers to adoption.
