The Department of Political Science is one of the most academically diverse in Kansas State University, offering eight degree options in undergraduate, graduate and accelerated education. The Politics and Global Afterlives of
Ibn Tufayl's Hayy ibn Yaqzan

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the political science department awarded more than $33,000 in scholarship funds to its undergraduate and graduate students. The department also awarded stipends for graduate assistantships to six students across two graduate programs.

Dr. Murad Idris from the University of Michigan will explain why European and Arab intellectuals have turned to reading Islamic philosophy over the last two centuries. In particular Dr. Idris will focus on the competing ways of reading the ethics and politics of the famous allegory Hayy ibn Yaqzan, the civilizational and colonial battles over its significance, and the stakes for the contemporary global humanities.

This event is part of both the Live Ideas Lecture Series & Middle East Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by K-State’s Primary Texts Certificate and Middle East Studies Minor programs. Both speaker series, and this event, are open to the public.
