Our department is very thankful for your support! Through the generosity of so many friends and alumni, we are able to offer funding opportunities to students and faculty of the department that have directly helped them to accomplish their goals.

Donations that come in to our department are put into the following priorities:

Assiting students

Each year, we offer our majors (undergraduate and graduate) scholarships/fellowships based on academic merit, research/career interests, and financial need. We provide our graduate students yearly research (GRA) and teaching (GTA) assistantship positions. We fund student organizations and groups within the department, such as Model UN and the Undergraduate Student Council. We sponsor students applying for honor societies in the political science field, student research, and student travel to academic conferences (most recently to the 73rd Annual Class of 1971 Student Conference on U.S. Affairs at West Point).

Aid the department

From printing paper to event spaces, there are many things our department accounts for in just one semester. These commodities are essential for maintaining an engaging and contemporary academic environment for our students. Faculty also benefit by having the means to purchase necessary materials, and in addition, being able to invite guest speakers to meet with students and enhance their lessons.

For junior of senior students majoring in political science at K-State that are active on campus and/or in their local community.

Dennis K. Tapsak Memorial Scholarship

For undergraduate students majoring in political science at K-State with a 3.0 GPA or above.

Don and Marian Button Political Science Scholarship

For undergraduate students majoring in political science at K-State, who have an expressed interest in public service.

Donald R. Hill Scholarship in Political Science

For undergraduate students majoring in political science at K-State.

Edward Allen McCoy Jr. Memorial Scholarship in Political Science

For junior or senior students majoring in political science at K-State.

Evelyn M. Bieker Political Science Scholarship

For undergraduate and graduate students majoring in political science, public administration or security studies at K-State. Preference given to those with child(ren), or who are active duty in the U.S. military or veterans, or who are spouses of active duty U.S. military of veterans.

John and Lynn Carlin Public Administration Scholarship

For graduate students judged to have outstanding potential and high scholastic aptitude; majoring in public administration at K-State.

Jon David Wagner Scholarship

For junior or senior students majoring in political science at K-State who are Kansas residents.

Jon Wefald International Security Scholarship

For graduate students in the Department of Political Science at K-State who have interest in national security affairs.

Joseph Hadja Student Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate students majoring in political science, public administration or security studies at K-State. Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need, excellent academic performance, and a strong international commitment.

Louis H. Douglas Scholarship

For junior or senior students majoring in political science at K-State who has shown academic excellence.

Nicholas Salgo Political Science Scholarship

For undergraduate and graduate students majoring in political science, public administration, or security studies at K-State. Preference given to students interested in Russia and Eastern Europe.

Orma Linford Scholarship

For junior or senior students majoring in political science at K-State, with a Pre-Law designation.

Raoul Wallenberg Scholarship in International Relations

For graduate students majoring in public administration at K-State.

Reba L. Cobb Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Women in Political Science

For junior female students majoring in political science at K-State, who have the highest overall academic grade average (GPA).

Richter Family "Beyond the Campus" Scholarship

For undergraduate students majoring in political science at K-State, who demonstrate academic excellence. This scholarship should enhance experience beyond the campus environment, such as out-of-state internships, study abroad or community service abroad.

Rieger McCrery Scholarship

For junior, senior or graduate students majoring in political science, public administration or security studies at K-State whose primary interest is in international relations and peaceful resolutions of international conflict through the United Nations or other diplomatic means.

Sally Coberly Political Science Scholarship

For undergraduate students majoring in political science at K-State.

Samarrai Middle Eastern Students Scholarship

For graduate students of U.S. citizenship in the Department of Political Science specializing in Middle East-American Relations, Middle East Politics and/or International Politics of the Middle East.

Tummala Master of Public Administration Student Fellowship

For graduate students majoring in public administration at K-State.

Michael W. Suleiman Chair in Arab and Arab-American Studies

Established by the magnanimity of John Hofmeister (B.A. in Political Science, 1971; M.A. in Political Science, 1973), former President of Shell Oil as well as the founder and CEO of the non-profit Citizens for Affordable Energy Kansas, the Michael W. Suleiman Chair in Arab and Arab-American Studies was made to honor Michael W. Suleiman.

Through Michael W. Suleiman, Kansas State University developed a widespread reputation for excellence in the study of Middle Eastern and Arab-American issues. Starting his academic career as an assistant professor of political science at K-State in 1965, he went on to serve the department for over forty years, even leading as department head from 1975 to 1982. Suleiman was a leader in the study of Arab politics and a pioneer in Arab-American ethnic studies and history. In addition to his activities in professional and grassroots organizations, Dr. Suleiman played a significant role in the foundation of American Arab National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan and served as a board member and consultant until 2010. Presently, the Michael W. Suleiman Chair in Arab and Arab-American studies is held by Dr. Sabri Ciftci. Dr. Ciftci is a professor of political science who is well known for his research on the Middle East, Arab public opinion, and Islam and democracy. During his role as the Suleiman Chair, Dr. Ciftci has organized, sponsored, and hosted speakers, conferences and events that help to further grow the visibility and vibrancy of the Middle Easterner and Arab-American community at K-State. He established the Middle East Speaker Series, and the Middle East Studies Minor, an interdisciplinary program involving Political Science, History, Modern Languages, Communication Studies, and Philosophy departments

The Suleiman Chair and the activities associated with it, help to expand our knowledge and established learning opportunities on issues that will remain relevant for generations to come.

A gift to the Suleiman Chair not only honors Michael W. Suleiman's legacy, it builds upon a tradition of success in the study of Middle Eastern affairs at K-State.

Other Funds

Don and Carol Kissinger Political Science Excellence Fund

Funds will be used to support the needs of students majoring in political science at K-State's Department of Political Science.

Melia and Ryan Pfannenstiel Political Science Excellence Fund

Funds will be used to support the Department of Political Science's needs, including but not limited to: conference travel, scholarship, programmatic support, etc.

Political Science Department Fund

Funds will be used to procur necessary classroom materials for the Department of Political Science.

Jones Family Faculty Award for Eastern European Studies

To support faculty in the Department of Political Science. Strong preference will be given to faculty specializing in Eastern and Central European politics. If there are no faculty at the time of awarding that fit the preference, awards will be made to faculty specializing in international security and are interested in applying their teaching and research agenda to the study of Eastern and Central European politics.
