Minutes March 25, 2014
Hello everyone!
Here are the minutes from the SDA meeting on Tuesday March 25:
The 18th Annual K-State Traveling and Dining Auction is looking for dietetics student volunteers. This auction is extremely important to all student clubs as it is the SOLE source of funding and scholarships for organizations in our department such as SDA! We discussed officer positions, elections and the remainding events for the semester. All information for officer positions can be found on the SDA website. The only requirement to run for elections is that you are an SDA member. Elections will be held on April 29. Following this meeting will be a short executive turnover. If you are interested or have questions in positions please as the respecting officers whose contact information is also found on the SDA website. SDA President Joel Morgan will be sending out a final email later in April requesting those running to repsond. If you already plan on running for a position you can contact him at any time before this email so he can add you to the list (morganjd@k-state.edu).
Our last two speakers will be KDA President Erin Laurie, RD on April 1 and Leslie Graves, RD on her own private business on April 15.

- The Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics is looking for Student volunteer for Open House. If you haven't already signed up for the SDA Open House booth this is another great way to get involved!
- Flint Hills Bread Basket is looking for student volunteers to help with a luncheon that illustrates different donated meal items that represent different income levels.
- Thursday, March 4th 7pm: Dinner at JP's Sport Grill in Jardine Complex
- Tuesday, March 11th 5:30pm: Next SDA meeting. Our guest speaker will be a Skype in with current DP intern and KSU graduate Michael Minnis

Hello everyone, here are the minutes from our SDA meeting this Tuesday! Please make a note of dates and signups if you are interested, we have a lot going on!
RD Dr. Sneed spoke to us on pursuing master degrees, and the various options available. Video recording of her talk will be posted online by the end of this week.
Next meeting: Tuesday November 19th
Social events (not required but encouraged!):
November 12th, next Tuesday: Dinner at Power Cat Sports Grill 5:30pm

Hi everyone!
Here are the minutes for our SDA meeting on October 29th:
Sign up for SDA t-shirts are due THIS Friday, November 1st. Email Katelyn (kjm16@ksu.edu) your name and size! Money will be due at the time of pick up.
If you are interested in having your dietetic story published on our website please email me (cab1991@ksu.edu) no later then Wednesday, November 6th. This applies to both on-campus and distance students!:)
Thank you for everyone that showed up to our joint meeting with the Bakery Science Club!! We got to test delicious cookies and helped make homemade bread! Pictures to be posted on the website soon.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 5th in Justin 149. Dr. Sneed will be speaking to us about graduate studies, and further opportunities for academics beyond your bachelors degree.

Teresa Sandborn,RD from Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, spoke on her various experiences of being a dietitian in a clinical setting for 30 years. The video of her presentation will be posted on the SDA website later this week. (http://www.k-state.edu/sda/)

Upcoming Dates:
THIS Saturday, October 19th we our having an optional social gathering at the Farmers Market at 10 am. The location is 3rd and Leavenworth in Manhattan. It should be a delight-fall seasonal experience!:) Please refer to the flier on the SDA board (across the hall from Justin 150) for further details. Again, this is optional, but it is a great experience to hang out and meet new friends!
Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 29th. We will be having a joint meeting with the KSU Baking Club, making baked goods, socializing, etc. It will be from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm in Shellenberger Hall (across from the Leadership Studies Building - exact room to be announced in reminder email).

Minutes October 1, 2013
We are currently searching for an Open-House chair to coordinate the dietetics display and staffing at the KSU All-University Open House on April 5, 2014: Contact Joel (morganjd@ksu.edu) or Jaycee (jclucas@ksu.edu) for further details. This is a great leadership opportunity and a fun event, not only for SDA, but also for Kansas State!
Our SDA website, www.k-state.edu/sda, was recently updated. The SDA study group link can be found there. Speaker videos will be posted on the website as well as all officer contact information.
Guest speaker: Michelle Netson, RD spoke on her dietetics experiences and also provided great professional advice. We are planning on uploading the video of her presentation onto the website by the end of this week.At our next meeting, we will have a dietitian from Mercy Hospital as our guest speaker. The next meeting will be October 15th at 5:30 pm in Justin 149).
Upcoming events:
Flint Hills Bread Basket community service project: Specific days and times to be set soon. Continue to email jclucas@ksu.edu of days/times you are available to help out if interested.Farmers Market social activity (optional): Saturday, October 19th at 10 am. We are planning on meeting at our local farmers market, located at 3rd and Leavenworth. There is a flier posted on the SDA board in Justin. It will be a fun time to get to know fellow members and check out what is available locally!

Dr. Canter Spoke on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition Conference Expo (FNCE), which is October 19-22 in Houston, TX. Any questions please email Dr. Canter (canter@ksu.edu). Future FNCE meetings are:

Anna Binder from Maximum Performance came to talk about what she does. The video of that will be posted on our website at www.ksu.edu/sda later this week.
SDA elections are on April 23rd. E-mail Larissa Dunn with your name and the positions you are wanting to run for. Her e-mail is chetagrl@ksu.edu. Below are the descriptions of each position.
President- Works with other officers. Works with Amber with what is going on in SDA. Picks out the room for our meetings for the following semester.
Vice President- Assists President with things. Sets up speakers for the meetings, figures out info for FNCE and works with Dr. Canter.
PR- Runs bulletin board that is in Justin Hall. Makes flyers for each meeting. Will start running website starting next semester. Helps run open house.
Social- Plans BBQ at the beginning of the semester. Plans RD day/nutrition month. Will be planning more social events next year to increase SDA participation.
Treasurer- Collects money for dues and T-shirts. In charge of books and scholarship money.
Secretary/Liaison- Sends out e-mails reminding of meetings, sends minutes of the meetings/takes roll at meetings. Video tapes speakers and takes pictures when we go on tours.
Travel and Dining Auction will be on April 26th. Sign-up sheet is on Justin 153 door. This helps raise money for SDA scholarships so participation is vital. If we don't get enough participation, we don't get scholarship money so please sign-up.
Shugart Lecture is on April 25th at 1:30 in Forum Hall. The speaker is Dr. Mary Gregoire, RD who is director of food and nutrition services at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

Minutes for meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2013
Sign-up for KSU Open House if you haven't already. This is a good opportunity to get involved with the College and a fun way to get to know fellow dietetic students.
Applications for the MINK scholarships were due. Involvement in SDA is an important factor when it comes to applying for various scholarships.
Next week: SDA will be having a booth in the K-State Student Union next week from 11-1:30 Monday-Thursday, March 11-14. Please get involved and sign-up. We need at least 2 people per shift. Shifts are 1 hour long. Just be available for questions about dietetics or SDA for anyone who walks by the table.
HMD Travel and Dining Auction: Sign-up by April 1st. This auction is a huge part of how we get funding for scholarships like MINK and FNCE. Without participation, we will not be able to give out scholarships for them next year so please help out!
Please write a bio for website. E-mail me if you are interested. I have had many comments from students saying that they enjoy reading them so please write one. If you have not looked at them yet and need an example, they are on our website at ksu.edu/sda under the stories tab.
March 13th is National RD day. We made goodie bags for the RDs on campus and wrote little notes expressing our appreciation.

Minutes for the meeting held on Tuesday, February 19th.
We had a tour of HyVee grocery store with Karen Hanson,RD, LD, their supermarket dietitian. Supermarket dietitians are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. Their "playground" is at the supermarket where they help customers make healthier buying decisions, hold classes about nutrition, and lead a variety of food and nutrition-related activities. The HyVee chain holds the #2 spot nationally for employing the most dietitians. Pictures from the tour with descriptions will be up on the SDA website within the week at http://www.k-state.edu/sda/.
The joint meeting of the Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas Dietetic Associations (MINK) will be held at the Sheraton in Overland Park, KSApril 4-6. Applications for the 20 "scholarships" to cover the registration fee for students are up on the dietetics bulletin board in Justin (across from JU 150) and have also been e-mailed out. Applications are due March 5th.
A sign-up sheet to help out at K-State Open House was circulated. E-mail me if you missed the meeting but want to help out. We will need help on Saturday, April 20th from 8:30-4:00. Shifts will be approximately 2 hours long. We will also need help on Friday, April 19th to help set up starting at 5 p.m. in Justin Hall. Meet in the lobby.
March is National Nutrition Month. SDA will be participating in various activities including the HMD Annual Culinary Enhancement Workshop (March 8th) and National RD Day (March 13th).
The last day to sign-up to help work at the HMD Travel & Dining Auction is April 1st. The auction is a combination of a silent auction and a live auction with a huge variety of fun items to bid on. It will be held on April 26th at the Hilton in Manhattan, KS. Some of the proceeds from the auction are shared among the HMD student professional organizations based on the number of members of each organization who work the event. Volunteer to help out at this fun event and bring some revenue to SDA.

Hello all! Minutes for the meeting held on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013.
Kyle Ness came to talk about his platform for Student Body President of Kansas State University. His running mate is Ariel Mendiola. Their platform includes improving the K-State Union to generate revenue, designating study space at the Union, and renovating large lecture halls. The SDA website is up and running at http://www.ksu.edu/sda. You can access it on or off campus. The home page includes welcome information and important links. The events page includes what we are doing during each SDA meeting. The officer page includes all of the officers' names and contact information. The minutes include the minutes for each meeting. The RSS page is not up yet but it will be used as a resource for internship info, curriculum info, and other helpful information.
There are extra SDA T-shirts available for $12 each. Let Jessica Perrault at jessp@k-state.edu know if you are interested in buying one. The application for "scholarships" for registration for the 4-state dietetics meeting (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas or MINK) will be sent out as an email attachment next week and is due on March 5th. The MINK meeting is April 4th-6th in Kansas City (Overland Park) and is a great opportunity to network and meet dietitians from Kansas and neighboring states.

At the next meeting, we will be sending around a sign-up sheet for participants for K-State Open House. KSU Open House is on Saturday, April 20th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The theme will celebrate this year's 150th anniversary of the founding of Kansas State University. The SDA booth will demonstrate ways to burn 150 calories, snacks that are under 150 calories, and we will also have a place where we will be making "Willie the Wildcat" out of healthy ingredients. Open House is a great way to talk about our major and to tell visitors to the campus who we are and what we do.
March 8, 2013 is the 9th Annual Culinary Enhancement Student Workshop, "All American Flavors" featuring Chef Molly Stevens. The deadline to sign-up is February 15th. Student registration is $15. See the attached brochure.
Applications for admission to the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP), for dietetic internships (the after you graduate program) and for Academy scholarships are all due February 15th.
The Hospitality Management and Dietetics Travel and Dining Auction will be Friday, April 26th at the Manhattan Hilton Gardens Hotel. This auction is a big fundraiser that generates money for the student organizations in department. It is a very fun way to get involved and raise money.
February 14th: KSU 150th birthday celebration kickoff at Ahearn Fieldhouse (by the K-State Union). The College of Human Ecology will have its own booth. There will be speakers and free food. The celebration of the 150 years of K-State will continue throughout the year.
Our next meeting is February 19 at 5:30 p.m. SDA will meet at the HyVee grocery store for a tour with HyVee dietitian, Karen Hanson, RD, LD.
