OUTSTANDING K-STATE SCIENTIST OR ENGINEER
PURPOSE:
To recognize Kansas State University Sigma Xi members who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in scientific research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should fit the purpose of the award. Special attention will be given to contributions in methodology, competence shown, and effects of the research on advances in science.
AWARD:
The awardee will receive $100 honoraria and a certificate from the KSU Chapter of Sigma Xi. Awardee will present a public lecture in the fall of 2023.
DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF NOMINATIONS:
April 14, 2023. Submit applications to Martha Mathher (mmather@ksu.edu). The nominator should collect and submit all documents.
EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES:
(30%) 1. Letter of nomination. Only full members of Sigma Xi in good standing are eligible to make nominations. Letter should include description of a candidate’s research accomplishments that qualify for receipt of the award. It should address contributions in methodology, competence shown, and effects of the research on advances in science.
(40%) 2. Vita of candidate. Vita should list publications, grants received, abstracts, and presentations at scientific meetings.
(30%) 3. Letters of endorsement. One letter should be a statement of endorsement of the candidate from the candidate’s department head or unit leader. One letter should be a statement of endorsement of the candidate from an external peer who is not a KSU faculty member, but has knowledge of the candidate’s research activities.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARD:
The award will be announced at the Annual Spring Awards Ceremony in April or at some other appropriate time.
