2019 SIIL Annual Meeting
The 2018 Annual Meeting for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification (SIIL) will take place on April 8-10, 2019 at the Palm Beach Hotel in Saly, Senegal. SIIL subawardees, external advisory board, collaborators, management entity staff, and USAID representatives will gather to share updates and discuss research strategies moving forward.

Registration
All attendees must register to attend the SIIL Annual Meeting through the online registration website. The registration fee is $500 per person, and this covers the hotel room, all meals, airport transfers and in-country transportation to and from site visits. The deadline to register for the SIIL Annual Meeting is March 13, 2019. The cancellation deadline is March 31, 2019, and there will be a 10% cancellation fee of $50.
Accommodation
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Palm Beach for the Annual Meeting attendees. Your room will be reserved upon receipt of your flight itinerary. While Annual Meeting participants are encouraged to stay at the Hotel Palm Beach, it is not required.
Transportation
Attendees are responsible for making their own airline ticket reservations, however, once we have received your flight details, we will arrange for your airport transfers.
Travel Requests
All individuals that are using SIIL funds to finance (in part or full) their trip to Senegal must submit a travel request on the Piestar Reporting Hub at least 3 weeks prior to departure.
Visa Information
Attendees will require a valid passport to enter Senegal, and while many will not require a visa, please check the website for the Senegalese Embassy in Washington DC to see the requirements for your country at ambasenegal-us.org, or you can call them at (202) 234-0540. You may also check with the Senegalese Embassy in your home country if that is easier.
Additional Informational
- The average high temperature in Dakar/Saly during the cool season (Dec-April) is 26°C/79°F,and the average low temperature is 17°C/63°F.
- The Franc CFA is the main currency used in Senegal, with an average exchange rate of 500 cfa= US$1. As we will be in a tourist area, the majority of upscale hotels and restaurants should accept credit cards, but it is a good idea to bring cash to exchange into the local currency.
- Malaria, Zika, and dengue are prevalent in Senegal, among other diseases and viruses, and travelers are advised to take appropriate precautions. Please see the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) link below for further information.
