STRAN 400: Transforming Society (PDF)
Section A, Dr. Weaver
It is undeniable that the U.S. today is fractured by the joins, past and present, of colonialism, racism, misogyny, nationalism, ableism, Orientalism, transphobia, and homophobia. This class examines these fractures and joins, exploring social movements and conceptual interventions that upend and challenge the many oppressions that warp the fabric of our current social order. Threading history, ethnography, cultural studies, philosophy, fiction, and film, we take up ideas like intersectionality and structural violence as they emerge in and apply to projects such as disability justice and U.S. prisons. Through collective thinking in the why and how of making change, we engage the ethics and praxis of transforming society.

Fulfills the Human Diversity in the U.S. and Ethical Reasoning requirements and counts towards the queer studies minor.
