Project LEAPES (Learning, Exploration, and Application for Prospective Engineering Students) is a grant from the United States Department of Defense NDEP Program. This academy is funded through the grant and designed to increase student awareness of STEM opportunities throughout the state.
Our Academy provides engaging content virtually, with on-site educators from your schools in the classroom to assist with lessons. Your registration pays for 3 weeks of classroom instruction.
- Virtual Zoom sessions with a facilitating teacher in place
- Open to students in grades 6–8 during the current school year
- Registration fee: $100 per classroom
Registration for School Districts will open soon. Individuals are not eligible to enroll, but may choose to instead register for our Summer STEAM Academy.
Project LEAPES classroom registration will be capped at 40 districts. With limited space, classes will fill up quickly. School districts registering classes will be contacted for more information once the school district is registered.
LEAPES Virtual Academy Content
- Week 1 - Computer Science (June 3-6)
- Week 2 - Artificial Intelligence/Robotics (June 10-13)
- Week 3 - Drones/Unmanned Aerial Systems (June 17-21)
Benefits to Participating Districts
- Teachers will receive over $4000 of classroom technology they keep to use with their students
- $1000 Stipend provided to facilitating teachers
- Free Professional Development sessions in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Aerospace to prepare teachers to integrate content into classrooms (April 15 and April 29 @ K-State Salina Campus)
- Participating teachers eligible for graduate credit from Kansas State University
- Prepare your school to be compliant with HB 2466 - Promoting Advancement in Computing Knowledge Act

Schools can sign up and register for multiple classrooms if they have more than 20 students.
