K-State joins National First-generation Student Celebration

Join the First-generation Student Center in celebrating K-State's first-generation community. The center, in collaboration with several campus partners, is sponsoring a week of activities to join a national celebration for first-generation students the week of Nov. 4-8.

First-generation students are those whose neither parent or guardian earned a four-year college degree and they comprise over 25% of K-State's undergraduate students.

The National First-Generation Student Celebration activities include: 

Monday, Nov. 4

  • Noon to 1 p.m. in Calvin Hall Room 301, lunch with the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences. RSVP is required by 5 p.m. Thu., Oct. 31
  • 4-5 p.m. in K-State Student Union courtyard, Education Abroad Student Panel. Join us to hear from students who have traveled abroad through K-State's Education Abroad and learn about all the possibilities for international travel.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

  • 4-5 p.m. in K-State Student Union Forum Hall, fourth annual Tri-Alpha Honor Society's Induction Ceremony. Join us to celebrate our high achieving first-generation students, and our faculty and alumni honorees.

Thursday, Nov. 7

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the K-State Student Union courtyard, First-generation Student Celebration, Nacho average student! Stop by the Union courtyard to meet other first-gen students, faculty and staff. Get a Proud to be First T-shirt, grab some food at the nacho bar, and take photos at the photo booth.
  • Noon to 1 p.m. in the Union courtyard, Proud to Be First Scholarship Awards. Join us in awarding 20 Proud to be First Scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. 
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College Center Conference Room at K-State Salina, First-generation Celebration Lunch. 
  • 6-9 p.m. at 100 Scenic Drive, bonfire at Britt's Farm. Join us for a fun evening and make new friends. 

All Week

  • First-gen video portraits. Visit the K-State Student Union and Holtz Hall and find our monitors featuring first-gen students, faculty and staff's inspiring stories.
  • Proud to Be First Signature Barista Choice, available at Cornerstone locations in Wefald Hall and Jardine Apartments. Let the barista know your choice of beverage, that you are celebrating First-gen Student Week, and they will upgrade the size of your purchase.
